Building Future Familiesexists because of your expressed concerns and collective voices and as foster and adoptive parents. Our purpose is to: empower your voices to be heard, respected and valued while creating a growing knowledgeable movement of foster and adoptive parents:
BUILDING FUTURE FAMILIES' specific objective and purpose is to:
During our first Town Hall in April 2016, we found out that foster parents were desperate for a Bill Of Rights, and while one exists, many foster parents were unaware of it. Since the last Town Hall, we have heard your concerns and are brainstorming ways to re-vamp the Bill of Rights for Foster Parents to better serve you. We hope as a result of the Town Hall foster and adoptive parents will gain a deeper understanding of what is happening in legislation, how it is being implemented, and how it relates to them. Through our surveys, and your questions and concerns, we gain a better understanding of the things that matter most. It is our mission to bring improvement to those areas and to become a collective voice of change for the rights of foster/adoptive parents.
Our second town hall meeting in November 2017 rendered the interest of foster parents involvement and understanding of the complexity of the local court room process and its system. Building Future Families (BFF) worked with a local family court Judge and a local non profit organization support group for foster and adoptive parents to engage their understanding of the court room procedures. The program developed now offers court room 101 educadtion to foster and adoptive parents on how the court room process and procedures work and how foster and adoptive parents can be a valued partner in the legal process.
